SNORKELLING
Glide over colourful coral reefs and spot turtles and tropical fish in Johor’s clear seas.
Activity Overview
Pulau Babi Besar’s surrounding reefs are part of the Johor Marine Park, offering calm and transparent conditions ideal for snorkelling. Beneath the surface, discover gardens of hard and soft corals teeming with parrotfish, angelfish, clownfish, and even the occasional turtle or reef shark. Popular sites include Batu Batu Beach for deeper snorkelling and the jetty area for beginners, where artificial reefs attract schools of sergeant majors and butterflyfish. Visitors can choose guided snorkelling trips departing from the island’s main jetty - usually at 09:00, 13:00 and 15:00 - where small boats ferry you to prime reef sites around Pulau Babi Besar and nearby Pulau Tengah. These half‑day excursions include snorkelling gear, life jackets, a safety briefing and a marine‑park‑accredited guide who’ll point out coral gardens teeming with parrotfish, clownfish and gentle sea turtles. Alternatively, rent equipment from beach huts to snorkel straight off shores such as Teluk Dalam and Batu Batu Beach, where shallow, calm waters (visibility up to 10 m) make it ideal for all skill levels. Artificial reefs by the jetty attract schools of sergeant majors and butterflyfish. As part of the Johor Marine Park, sustainable practices and conservation briefings are enforced throughout the experience.
